Membership Requirements

Any man or woman who can prove lineal descent from either male or female who was, as of 19 April 1775, a resident of the American colonies, and joined the Royal Standard prior to the Treaty of Separation of 1783, or otherwise demonstrated loyalty to the Crown, and settled in territory remaining under the rule of the Crown; or a soldier who served in an American Loyalist Regiment and was disbanded in Canada; or a member of the Six Nations of either the Grand River or the Bay of Quinte Reserve who is descended from one whose migration was similar to that of other Loyalists.

The Mullins-Bonner family has qualified the following 2 ancestors for membership in the United Empire Loyalists:

  • Benjamin Willson – Imprisoned in Frederick, Maryland 1777 for boarding a British Ship; indicted as a Loyalist in "State of New Jersey v. Benjamin Willson" 1778
  • Hannah Sypes – ardent Royalist, widowed in 1776, moved her 9 children to Bertie, Canada, so that her sons could fight with Butler's Rangers against the Colonial Rebels
